DESCRIPTION: Also known as the Cola Nut Gall, the causal agent of this distorted growth is a wasp that lays eggs into the leaf axil buds of the host plant which leads to the development of scaly, marble like galls. Galls are usually found in loose groups that do no coalesce. Each gall is up to 10mm wide, starts greenish before becoming grey-brown with red patches. There is only larval chamber located near the base of the gall. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent throughout Britain. HABITAT: Found on English and Sessile Oak.
